Despite the fact that NMC has implemented new changes to the testing system like the introduction of Insulin Pen to the Subcutaneous injection station, NMC OSCE marking criteria 2025 were remaining unchanged for long time.
The latest NMC OSCE marking criteria versioned as 2.4 (February 2025), has specified the points to be followed when performing Subcutaneous Injection using insulin pen.
Here are the key additions in the NMC OSCE Marking Criteria 2025 (v.2.4).
5th Criterion
Assembles the equipment by priming the pen and dialing the dose using a non-touch technique (When using insulin pen you need to ensure that you primed it before set and administer the actual dose).
11th Criterion
Holds the pen at a 90° angle to the skin and pushes the needle into the skin. (No need to verbalise the need of injecting 45° angle when less subcutaneous tissue)
12th Criterion
Injects the medicine slowly over 10 to 30 seconds, then waits for 10 seconds before withdrawing the pen. (Although 10-30 seconds of administration time is still remaining as a requirement, waiting 10 seconds after injecting is a new addition)
Other than these 3 amendments to the Subcutaneous Injection station there are no significant differences in any other stations or Marking Criteria from the last released version. Since the introduction of Insulin Pen onwards Mentor Merlin was already anticipating and preparing with this new changes even before its announced. So MM candidates now no need to make any changes to what they are practicing, you can continue to use the available materials but ensure you read and understand the above content.
