If you are a nurse in the process of joining the NMC register, this is a very important update you should not ignore. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has officially announced a significant system upgrade that will affect all current and new applications. From January 2026, NMC Online will be replaced by a new system titled MyNMC.

While this update focuses on improving the user experience, it also comes with temporary downtime and the critical actions applicants must be aware of, especially to avoid losing their progress.

Why Is the NMC Replacing NMC Online with MyNMC?

Planned Downtime: Key Dates You Must Remember

To launch MyNMC, the NMC will temporarily take down NMC Online.

Maintenance Period:

  • Begins: 23rd January 2026
  • Ends: 27th January 2026
  • The MyNMC portal becomes available: 12 PM (midday) on 27th January 2026
    At this time:
  • You will not be able to access NMC Online
  • No application progress can be saved
  • Incomplete data may be lost

If You Have Already Submitted Your NMC Application

Good news first. If your application form has already been submitted, you do not need to stress.

What comes next?

  • Your application will continue exactly from where it left off
  • All submitted forms and documents will transfer safely to MyNMC
  • No action is required from you at this stage

    Once MyNMC goes live, you’ll be able to log in and continue your journey without disruption.

If You Started Your Application but Haven’t Submitted It

This is where applicants need to be extremely careful. If your application is in progress but not formally submitted before downtime begins, your progress will not transfer to MyNMC.

This includes:

  • Saved answers
  • Uploaded documents that haven’t been submitted
  • Any partially completed forms
  • Progress that has not reached a formal submission stage

Although the NMC will still maintain a record that you started an application, you will need to re-complete the individual forms in MyNMC once the new system is launched.

To avoid losing valuable time, effort, and documents, the NMC strongly recommends:

Submitting before this date ensures:

  • Your progress is (safe)
  • Your documents remain uploaded
  • You don’t have to repeat the forms again
  • Your NMC registration timeline stays on track

  • Visa planning
  • Job offers and employer onboarding

    What Happens After MyNMC Goes Live? (From 27 January 2026)

Once MyNMC launches at 12 PM on 27 January 2026, you’ll be able to access the new system with a few initial steps.

How to Log In to MyNMC

  • Use the email address held by the NMC
  • Use your PIN or PRN as your password for the first login
  • Complete a one-time Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) setup
  • Review and update your contact details

What stays the same?

  • All submitted parts of your application will remain available
  • Your application status will continue as before

This one-time setup is designed to improve security and protect applicant data.

Third-Party Access: What You Need to Do Again

If you have nominated a third party (such as an agency, consultant, or training provider) to support your application, there are additional steps.

After MyNMC Launch:

  • You must re-grant third-party access in MyNMC
  • If the third party is not an NMC applicant or registrant, they will need to:
  1. Create a new MyNMC account
  2. Follow instructions sent to them by email

Failing to re-grant access may delay communication or document submissions, so this should be done promptly after login.


How to Stay Updated on NMC Downtime and System Changes

The NMC has confirmed that:

  • Downtime dates and updates will be published on the official NMC website
  • Applicants should cross-check the website frequently for any changes or announcements

Depending only on emails is not enough to always verify the updates directly from the NMC.
