The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has implemented significant changes to the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), specifically within the APIE station. This NMC OSCE update is crucial for all candidates currently preparing for their upcoming exam.
Please be informed that 2 scenarios have been officially removed from the APIE station of the NMC OSCE exam.
These changes have reduced the total number of APIE scenarios from 12 to 10. This update streamlines the station, focusing on a more concise set of conditions and situations.
| Removed Scenarios From APIE | 10 Scenarios, which are part of the Exam |
| Asthma Anxiety and Depression | Alzheimer’s Chronic Heart Failure Colorectal Cancer (End of life) Community Assessment Ectopic Pregnancy Fall and Fracture Hernia Homelessness Pneumonia Subdural Haematoma |
NMC OSCE Updated Preparation Guidance
We strongly advise all students to:
1. Remove Asthma and Anxiety & Depression from your APIE preparation.
These conditions are no longer examinable under this station.
2. Refocus your study time on the remaining 10 scenarios.
Deepen your understanding of the remaining 10 scenarios.
For Mentor Merlin students, we have already integrated these changes into the practice sessions and assessments. We are committed to keeping your learning aligned with the latest NMC guidelines so that your time and effort are focused on the right content.
Why This Matters
- Candidates preparing for the OSCE should update their study plans to focus only on the revised list of 10 scenarios.
- The removal emphasizes practical, modern healthcare contexts, aligning the OSCE more closely with real-world nursing practice.
Preparation Tips
- Focus on Remaining Scenarios: Strengthen knowledge and practice in the 10 active APIE cases.
- Adapt Study Resources: If you’re using older notes or guides, cross-check to avoid preparing for removed scenarios.
- Seek Mentor Guidance: Trainers can help tailor preparation to the updated exam format.
