The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) continues to replenish the NMC OSCE new Stations to be more aligned with real-world clinical practice. The January 2026 NMC introduces a few new stations across APIE, Clinical Skills, Professional Values, and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). These updates aim to assess not only clinical competence, but also rationale, communication, and safe practice.

Here’s a summary of each new station introduced in the January 2026 NMC OSCE update:
1. APIE: Suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Scenario Focus:
Assess the patient who have condition of Suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis, create an appropriate care plan, and give a relevant handover during APIE.
What the station assesses:
- Clinical assessment of signs and symptoms (leg pain, swelling, redness).
- Safety and risk identification.
2. Clinical Skill: Anti-embolism Stockings
Station Focus:
Tests the safe use of anti-embolism stockings.
What the station assesses:
- Uses the correct procedure for measuring the patient’s legs.
- Correctly documents measurements on the patient documentation form.
- Educate Patient atleast 4 pieces of advice.
3. Clinical Skill: Pre-operative Checklist
Station Focus:
Assesses your ability to apply a pre-operative safety checklist before surgery.
What the station assesses:
- Confirm patient identity and allergy status.
- Check consent, dentition, Jewellery, and fasting status.
- Consent form: checks patient’s understanding.
4. Professional Values: Deteriorating Patient
Station Focus:
Recognition of subtle but crucial signs of patient deterioration.
What the station assesses:
- Identify changes in vital signs or behaviour.
- Escalates concerns and acts as an advocate for the patient.
- Demonstrates understanding of the duty of candour.
5. Professional Values: Patient Private Details
Station Focus:
Assesses the understanding and demonstration of privacy and confidentiality in practice.
What the station assesses:
- Outlines their colleagues’ professional responsibility to respect a patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality in all aspects of care.
- Respecting GDPR principles or may incur a financial penalty.
- Escalates the issue appropriately.
6. Evidence-Based Practice: Cholesterol & Coffee
Station Focus:
Understand the evidence on the relationship between coffee intake and cholesterol.
What the station assesses:
- Interpretation of research summary.
- Explains what dyslipidemia is and what chronic illnesses it is linked to.
- Analyses the relationship between the amount of coffee consumed per day and health outcomes.
7. Evidence-Based Practice: Honey & Propolis as HSV Treatment
Station Focus:
Understand the evidence regarding the treatments (e.g., honey/propolis) for viral infections, such as HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus).
What the station assesses:
- Summarises the main findings from the article summary.
- Mentions that honey and propolis have been found to have minimal side effects.
- Explain that honey and propolis should be especially considered by people who have adverse side effects to aciclovir.
8. Evidence-Based Practice: Osteoporosis and Exercise
Station Focus:
Look at what osteoporosis is, and how it is related to bone fragility.
What the station assesses:
- Summarises the main findings from the article summary.
- Discuss what low, moderate and high-intensity exercise is.
- Explains that any decision should be discussed with her clinician.
