How Many OET Sub-tests Can You Take in the OET Exam? A Complete Guide to OET Re-marking

For candidates who have taken the Occupational English Test (OET), receiving a score lower than expected can be disappointing. Fortunately, OET offers a re-marking process, allowing candidates to request a review of their test scores. This blog provides a detailed guide on how to request a re-marking, associated fees, expected outcomes, and the appeals process.

Number of OET Sub-Tests Eligible for Re-Marking

You can request a re-mark for one or more of the OET sub-tests. There’s no restriction on the number of sub-tests you can submit for re-marking; however, each sub-test re-marking request is treated individually and incurs a separate fee.

How to Request OET Re-marking?

  • OET on Paper: Log into your myOET account and click the “Request Re-marking” link for the sub-test(s) you wish to have reviewed.
  • OET on Computer or OET@Home: Follow the instructions provided in your results notification email.

When to Request a OET Re-mark?

  • You must submit your request within 72 hours from the release of your results. Requests made beyond this period will not be considered.
  • The re-marking process will only commence once the payment has been made.
  • If you mistakenly request a re-mark for the wrong sub-test, contact OET support within 72 hours. Once the process is initiated, it cannot be reversed, and the fee will not be refunded.
  • OET will not process a re-marking request if:
    • Additional information was requested regarding your test administration, delaying the release of your results.
    • The request is made after 14 days from the official results release date.
In such cases, OET will fully refund the re-marking fee.

Re-marking Fees

  • Global (except US): AU$120 per sub-test
  • UK: ~£65 per sub-test

Re-marking results typically take between three to six weeks from the submission date. If your score changes, your re-marking fee will be fully reimbursed. However, if there is no change, the fee will not be refunded.

Re-marking Outcomes

A re-marked score may result in:

  • An increased score
  • A decreased score
  • No change in score

If your score changes, your myOET dashboard or OET Account will be updated accordingly. A revised Statement of Results will be available for download within 24 hours of the updated result.

If an error in grading is identified that affects multiple candidates, OET will take the necessary steps to correct or mitigate the issue.

Important Considerations for Candidates

  • The re-marking process does not provide qualitative feedback on your performance.
  • If you take another test while waiting for the re-marking outcome, OET will not reimburse the test fee, even if your re-marked score improves.
  • If you decide to withdraw your re-marking request before the outcome is published, you can request that the new result not be released. However, no refund will be issued.
  • Once a re-marked result is published, it cannot be reverted to the original score.
  • Only the candidate can request a re-marking; requests from relatives, friends, or colleagues will not be accepted.

Can You Appeal a Re-marking Outcome?

If you believe the re-marking decision was not conducted properly and fairly, you can appeal by following the OET Appeals Policy.

Appeal Process & Fees

  • Appeals are only allowed after the re-marking process is complete.
  • The appeal fee is:
    • AU$120 (Global, except US) per appeal stage
    • UK: ~£65 per sub-test
  • If your sub-test score changes as a result of the appeal, both the re-marking and appeal fees will be refunded.

Final Thoughts

The OET re-marking process provides candidates with an opportunity to have their scores reviewed if they believe their performance was assessed inaccurately. While there are associated fees and strict timelines, a successful re-marking outcome can positively impact a candidate’s professional journey. If you are considering requesting a re-mark, ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria and understand the possible outcomes before proceeding.
